Ouarzazate, often associated with the sun, makes you dream...! However, this recent city is hardly striking in comparison with the splendour of the regions where it is located.
The city has an ideal location between the High Atlas, the Anti-Atlas, Drâa Valley, the desert and er-Rachidia. This old garrison town is in the process of becoming a great tourist centre. The modern city has developed quickly towards the west. The broad avenue is bordered today with pink houses, small buildings, shops, hotels, large stores and a beautiful and recently built mosque.
In spite of the wear of time, there remain in the oases and in the mountains true jewels to be seen: the ksours, the kasbahs, the handicrafts in all its forms, the know-how , the traditions etc.... which tend to etiolate as we approach the big cities.
Many hotels, the most recent and the most sumptuous, have been mainly built on the heights. This has made Ouarzazate an ideal stopover for all forms of circuits, excursions and stays towards the south. |
